Inspect the pattern.

A comparison could identify repeated equipment runtime outside the agreed occupied and conditioning windows. The review would include weather, known overrides and environmental trends rather than treating every overnight load as waste.

Bring it to the operator.

Facilities staff check evening use, cleaning, examinations, frost protection and any required ventilation or conditioning before deciding whether to inspect a schedule or control fault.

    Choose a building and a calendar

    Select a teaching building and record normal hours, seasonal closures, event use and approved exceptions with the facilities owner.

    Map meters to the equipment served

    Check whether a meter covers the target building alone, whether local generation affects the reading and which equipment states are available.

    Review schedule exceptions

    Compare runtime with the calendar, weather and conditioning needs. Preserve exceptional-use explanations so a valid event does not create repeated alerts.

    Verify through the facilities workflow

    Have staff inspect relevant schedules or equipment, document decisions and evaluate whether the proposed evidence is useful during both term time and closures.

Equipment runtime outside agreed building-use and conditioning windows after documented exceptions are removed. Track unresolved periods separately from confirmed schedule issues.
02Context-adjusted energy comparison
Energy over comparable weather and building-use periods, using a baseline method agreed before evaluation. Report data coverage and uncertainty; a difference alone is not verified savings.
03Facilities review yield
Reviewed observations that lead staff to a justified inspection or documented schedule correction divided by all reviewed observations, including false and inconclusive findings.

THE OPERATING BOUNDARY

Be precise about the scope.

No learner or staff profiling

Use building calendars and equipment telemetry. The proposed pilot excludes grades, attendance, access-card identities, camera analysis and individual movement histories.

Comfort and air quality remain constraints

Energy observations do not authorize reducing necessary ventilation or environmental conditioning. Qualified facilities staff judge changes using the building’s requirements and established procedures.

No automatic schedule control

The proposed connection is read-only. Existing building controls, alarms and maintenance responsibilities remain in place; verified savings would need a separate agreed measurement approach.

Is this a student monitoring system?

No. This exploratory scope concerns buildings and equipment. Student profiling, assessment and individual activity monitoring are outside it.

Can a campus begin with historical data?

A scoped historical sample could help assess signal quality and evaluation needs. That would not establish live integration or field performance.
