01 / THE IDEA

The learning loop has a location.

A facility produces signals continuously. RAIN’s thesis is to put the model near those signals: capture data locally, run inference on-site and evaluate updates using local operating history. The battery-storage simulator demonstrates the mechanics of that loop; a first pilot must test its practical value.

Keep equipment detail in reach

A brief change can disappear inside an aggregate. Local access creates an opportunity to inspect equipment-level signals, provided their quality and sampling support the question.

Learn the conditions of one site

A shared model meets different equipment, environments and operating patterns. Local retraining can propose an adaptation, but evaluation must still decide whether it is better.

Define the network boundary

The local loop is designed to run without runtime network egress. Production uplink transport remains unfinished; future data flows need an explicit purpose and review.

Put the thinking into practice.

Define the scope, preserve the boundary, and make the outcome something a person can inspect.

    Capture close to the source

    Read the agreed telemetry and preserve the context needed to interpret it: equipment identity, timing, units and quality.

    Compare before changing

    Run the current model, train a candidate and evaluate both on held-out data. Keep the incumbent when the candidate fails the gate.

    Return evidence to people

    Present an advisory with model context and recorded history. Operators decide whether to investigate or act through their existing processes.

Worth understanding.

Does local deployment automatically make data secure?

No. Location is one boundary. Access, retention, maintenance, software updates and the site’s operational practices still need to be designed and verified.

Can the current system run at my facility today?

RAIN has not been field-deployed. A scoped pilot is the next milestone, including target hardware, equipment access and evaluation of real signal quality.
